Writing an Anschreiben that engineers will actually finish

Cover letters for German engineering roles work when they prove fit in three short paragraphs — not when they retell the entire CV.

An Anschreiben is not a place to list every CAD package you know. German engineering readers skim for motive and match: why this employer, why this role family, and which concrete project proves you can contribute soon.

Paragraph one should name the vacancy and the part of their work that intersects with yours — a product line, a plant type, a project phase. Paragraph two should carry one evidence story with a number or a standard. Paragraph three should close with availability and a calm invitation to discuss, without pressure language.

If your German is limited, a carefully edited English letter is often better than a shaky translation. Many international teams accept English; what they will not accept is vague enthusiasm with no engineering substance.
